An exciting opportunity is available at Lismore Base Hospital for an Emergency Medicine Advanced Trainee (Stage 2-4) position. The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in our hospital in the beautiful Northern NSW LHD / Richmond Network, working under the guidance of highly experienced senior clinicians as part of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine’s (ACEM) training program.
This position also includes a rare opportunity to work in our ACEM SSP and TS4 accredited pre hospital and retrieval medicine for the second six months of the clinical year (from August 2026).
This position also includes an opportunity ACEM accredited SSP and TS4 Ultrasound Post (0.5 FTE USS/ 0.5 FTE ED) at Lismore Base Hospital with Clinical Leads Dr Robyn Brady FRACP PEM FACEM DDU (previous ASUM Educator of the year 2021) and Dr Minh-Tu Duong FACEM CCPU.
This is a dynamic SSP at Lismore ED, a level 5 ED, major trauma centre, only 30 minutes to surf. You will have the chance to learn the art of Ultrasound in a department with endless interesting patients with pathology. During your 2 days/week of Ultrasound during the 6-month term you will have the opportunity to
· Work towards CCPU or ACEM credentialling in Core Emergency Ultrasound Units including AAA, EFAST, Focused Echo in Life Support, Lung, Procedural including Vascular Access
Accreditation: Lismore Base Hospital (Richmond Network) is accredited for 36 months of Trainee Stage 1-3 time, 6 months TS4 ED at Lismore,, 6 months TS4 non-ED Retrieval, 3 months (0.5 FTE for 6 months) TS4 non-ED Medical Education or 3 months (0.5 FTE for 6 months) TS4 non-ED Ultrasound. Our department offers opportunities to rotate to ACEM accredited terms in Anaesthetics and ICU.
Training Stage 4 (TS4): Trainees will have the opportunities to fulfil leadership roles within the department whilst having access to supervision and support from FACEMs. TS4 trainees will contribute to a range of education activities within Emergency Medicine and the hospital. Trainees will be provided non clinical time to undertake education, quality assurance and quality improvement activities.
Education: DEMT for ED is Dr Martin Duffy (ACEM Educator of the Year 2021). We offer weekly paid protected education sessions including simulation, clinical skills, case reviews, radiology, and paediatrics. Additional structured programs are offered to trainees preparing for ACEM primary and fellowship exams. LBH also supports trainees with funding external education activities including Alfred Health Emergency Procedures Course and ACEM Diploma of Pre Hospital and Retrieval Medicine.
The Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) Emergency Department (ED) sees over 41,000 adult and paediatric presentations per year and is a regional trauma centre. The department includes modern facilities such as a 4 bed resuscitation and procedure bay, acute zone, an ED short stay unit (EDSSU), fast tract and medical imaging services. LBH ED also supports Richmond Network hospitals including Ballina District Hospital and Casino Memorial District Hospital, and Multipurpose Centres located at Kyogle, Nimbin, Urbenville and Bonalbo.

Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is a level five acute referral hospital of 280 beds, with new medical, surgical and paediatric wards, womens care unit and 8 theatres complex, along with a new library and education space. LBH serves a population of approximately 170,000 people in the Far North Coast and Northern Rivers areas of NSW.
LBH is the recognised Regional Trauma Centre for the Far North Coast and is linked to the local helicopter retrieval service.
