WHAT ARE WE OFFERING? 

The Barossa Hills Fleurieu Local Health Network (BHFLHN) invites Emergency Medicine registrars to join our Emergency Department teams at Mount Barker District Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, Gawler Hospital or the Southern Fleurieu Health Service (Victor Harbor Hospital). Mount Barker district Soldiers' Memorial Hospital ED and Gawler Hospital ED are accredited for ACEM training, while the Southern Fleurieu Health Service (Victor Harbor Hospital) ED is seeking ACEM training accreditation from February 2027.

Mount Barker District Hospital ED is a mixed ED seeing approximately 35,000 patients a year. Mount Barker ED is accredited for 12 months of ED training, including accreditation for the ACEM Paediatric Log Book and TS4 placements.

Gawler ED is a mixed ED seeing 30,000 patients a year. Gawler ED is accredited for 12 months of ED training.

The Southern Fleurieu Health Service Emergency Department is a mixed ED in a beautiful coastal area and sees approximately 19,000 patients per year.

We provide excellent supervision, education, and support for trainees. This includes:

• 4 hours a week of paid protected teaching time. We contribute to and facilitate trainee attendance at the South Australian Statewide Primary and Fellowship programs, as well as providing a weekly in-house education program.
• Support for individual learning at all stages of ACEM training including simulation training, completion of WBAs and targeted ACEM exam coaching.
• Formal mentoring and informal social activities.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? 

Candidates should ideally be trainees of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) or have a strong interest in pursuing Emergency Medicine training. At a minimum, applicants must hold General Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

HOW WILL YOU CONTRIBUTE?

• Deliver safe, high-quality patient care by conducting thorough assessments, formulating working diagnoses, documenting accurately, seeking senior input when required, and ensuring effective clinical handover, discharge planning and continuity of care.
• Support clinical excellence, safety and quality by adhering to BHFLHN and SA Health policies, promoting safe prescribing, managing deteriorating patients, participating in incident reporting, complaints management and continuous quality improvement activities. 
• Contribute to a positive learning and professional environment through active participation in education, training, teaching programs, performance reviews and feedback processes, while acting as a professional role model for junior medical staff.
• Strengthen service delivery and organisational outcomes by engaging in accreditation activities, clinical review programs, risk management, system improvement initiatives and collaborative multidisciplinary teamwork that places patients and consumers at the centre of care.
