Director - Emergency Department

The Team:

The Launceston General Hospital (LGH) is the major acute referral hospital for Northern Tasmania, with the Emergency Department providing 24/7 care to a broad regional community. The team works closely with medical, nursing, allied health, Ambulance Tasmania, inpatient and community services to deliver safe, timely and patient-centred emergency care.

The Role:

The Director – Emergency Medicine provides senior clinical and strategic leadership for the Emergency Department, working in partnership with nursing and medical leaders to support safe care, patient flow, workforce planning, clinical governance and service improvement.

You will need:

• Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia in Emergency Medicine.
• Contemporary senior medical experience in Emergency Medicine, with advanced clinical judgement and decision-making skills in a complex acute setting.
• Proven leadership, communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead service delivery, workforce planning, clinical governance, safety, quality and performance improvement.

Details of appointment:

• Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as you can for a three year period. *notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging 

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 -$319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award. Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

• Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
• Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum
• Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%. *Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
• Management Allowance up to 20% is applied to this role
• Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $17,483 per annum, pro rata 
• Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate. 
• Professional development and accelerated pathways.
• A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
• Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.
• other allowances as applicable.

Eligibility: Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria as

• Holds specialist registration; or
• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway; or
• Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.
• Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
