Retrieval Registrars - Adult Retrieval Victoria

Adult Retrieval Victoria (ARV) is part of Ambulance Victoria (AV) and is the sole provider of state-wide clinical coordination, retrieval, and critical care services for inter hospital transfers within Victoria. 

ARV transfers have a high degree of complexity and include Major Trauma and ECMO transfers. ARV is currently seeking applications from Advanced Trainees/Registrars/Senior Registrars who have an interest in pre-hospital and retrieval medicine and would like to develop their skills in this area. 

The positions on offer are full-time, fixed term appointments for 6 months, with start dates in February 2027 and August 2027 and are based in Essendon Fields. 

About the role

Taking direction from the Clinical Lead ARV, the primary role of these positions is to provide advanced clinical care during acute inter hospital transfer of critically ill patients. In addition, registrars will have the opportunity to develop pre-hospital skills in rostered shifts with road MICA paramedics. 

Responsibilities of this position include, but not limited to:

  • Provide advanced critical care to patients during inter-hospital transfer
  • Perform inter-hospital retrievals as part of a multi-disciplinary retrieval team via fixed wing, rotary wing, and road-based platforms
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with the care teams at sending and receiving hospitals
  • Ensure that accurate and relevant patient documentation is recorded during the retrieval mission in accordance with ARV policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders to assist in the delivery of a safe and seamless service to the community
  • Attend training and orientation courses, perform clinical governance activity, attend and coordinate morbidity and mortality meetings 

About you

Requirements:

  • Legally qualified medical practitioners (MBBS or equivalent), with AHPRA general registration in Victoria
  • Advanced trainee with ACEM (Australian College of Emergency Medicine), ANZCA (Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists), or CICM (College of Intensive Care Medicine). 
    • Advanced trainees with ACCRM (Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine) or RACGP (Royal Australian College of General Practitioners) may be considered on a case-by-case basis, as will applicants with relevant overseas training or experience
    • Victorian Driver License

The salary range for the position is as per the Victorian Public Sector – Doctors in Training Enterprise Agreement 2022-2026.
