As a level 3 Trauma Centre, it is the expectation that Gosford Hospital can manage and stabilize all major trauma patients, transferring those patients requiring neurosurgical, cardiothoracic and spinal surgery to tertiary facilities. All other patients will be admitted locally for ongoing management, tertiary survey and discharge planning.
Trainees will be exposed to post-acute trauma patient care and be expected to join the other subspecialties in managing and prioritizing their ongoing care. They will form part of a multi-disciplinary team caring for trauma patients alongside our surgical, orthopaedic, ENT, maxillofacial surgery, allied health, ambulance, geriatric and radiology colleagues.
Gosford Hospital sees approximately 200 trauma patients per month. ISS >12, approximately 6-10 patients per month with a significant proportion of geriatric trauma. Admitted trauma patients per annum approximately >850

The above position has been approved by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) as a Provisional Category A Special Skills Placement.
This term is undertaken as an ACEM accredited Special Skills Term at 0.5 FTE paired with 0.5 FTE in Emergency Medicine. Both fractions are undertaken entirely at Gosford Public Hospital Emergency Department. The term offers close supervision by the primary supervisors with formalised intital, mid-term and end of term meetings. The trainee ought to be in their final stage of the FACEM training program, TS3.
Trauma Service Support Registrar role expectations (not limited to):
The successful applicant will have a roster that is primarily written centred on the SSP, with clinical ED shifts adapted around these. They are to report to the trauma office daily when on shift and will meet with their supervisor fortnightly. A logbook will be made available to the trainee during the orientation meeting and is expected to be completed by the end of term. This logbook will be reviewed during the term ad hoc.
