At John Hunter Hospital, trainees in Paediatric Emergency Medicine work within a highly regarded tertiary centre. The Paediatric Emergency Department is accredited for Paediatric Emergency Medicine training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine. It is closely associated with the John Hunter Children’s Hospital, providing access to a comprehensive range of paediatric services.
Trainees are supported and supervised by experienced Emergency Medicine consultants, Paediatric Emergency specialists, and jointly trained fellows in both Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics, ensuring a strong culture of teaching, mentorship, and clinical excellence.

Training and Development
Trainees are part of Network 4, an ACEM-accredited training program providing structured support across all stages of Emergency Medicine training.
You can expect:

• Comprehensive preparation for ACEM Primary, Written, and OSCE examinations.
• Simulation-based education with a strong paediatric focus.
• Protected 4 hours weekly teaching time.
• Rotational opportunities through paediatric ICU, retrieval, and other specialty areas.

Hunter New England Health Emergency Medicine Network 4 has a dynamic and diverse range of both metro and rural sites which include: John Hunter Hospital, Maitland Hospital, Calvary Mater Newcastle, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, with the option to be allocated to both Port Macquarie Base Hospital and Manning Base Hospital. These sites offer fantastic experiences in Emergency Medicine and speciality terms for our ACEM Trainees.
John Hunter Hospital is one of the busiest Emergency Departments in Australia with Trauma and Retrieval focused presentations. Should you only require Tertiary time for your Training, this can be facilitated within the Network at John Hunter Hospital.
