South Metropolitan Health Service

Peel Health Campus is a general hospital located in the City of Mandurah, 75 km south of Perth. It originally opened in 1988 as the 32-bed Mandurah District Hospital, and now operates with 206 licenced beds, bays and treatment areas.

The campus provides a wide range of healthcare services to the Peel region, including Mandurah, the shires of Murray and Waroona, and surrounding areas.

In late 2020 the WA Government announced that full operation of the Peel Health Campus (PHC) would transfer to South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) on the completion of the current contract with existing private operator Ramsay Health Care (RHC).

The transfer of PHC operations to SMHS will occur from August 2024 including RHC staff having the opportunity to transition employment to SMHS, transition of the ICT environment to WA Health systems and the integration of critical infrastructure upgrades.

These are important steps in providing people living in the Peel-Murray region with a range of local healthcare options.

As part of this decision, the State Government also announced its intention to expand the public hospital at PHC.

Options to co-locate a new private hospital on the same site, with the potential to share services between the public and private hospitals, will also be explored.
