Te Whatu Ora Hawkes Bay

Te Whatu Ora - Health New Zealand, Te Matau a Māui, Hawke's Bay Hospital is a 400-bed hospital providing acute and elective care for the Hawke's Bay region. We have most major medical and surgical subspecialties on site (except cardiothoracic and neurosurgery), as well as paediatrics, O&G. We are well supported by a strong regional ICU team. We have strengthening Primary and Community health services and an increasingly integrated approach to health and health care.

The Emergency Department is a mixed ED and has approximately 46,000 attendances a year, with a 30% admission rate. The general patient acuity is high, with a significant amount of major trauma. The Emergency Department runs four observation unit beds. You will join a team of sixteen Emergency Physicians, one Medical Officer, fifteen Registrars, eight House Officers and four Nurse Practitioners. We are accredited as a Tier 2 non-major referral site for training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (24 months ED training) and offer a regular and protected teaching programme.  There is the potential for suitably qualified advanced trainees to rotate through Paediatrics or Medicine, by application.
