Wollongong Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) is a busy Level 6 ED located in the CBD of Wollongong. Wollongong's Emergency Department is one of the busiest in New South Wales with approximately 70, 000 annual presentations in 2018 and is the referral and trauma hospital for the regional Emergency Departments.

The department currently has:

  • 4 resuscitations beds
  • 3 Rapid Assessment Treatment Beds
  • 10 Subacute Beds
  • 13 bed Emergency Short Stay Area (ESSA)
  • 4 treatment space Minor Injury and Illness Unit that is Nurse Practitioner and Physiotherapy Practitioner led

The department is staffed with FACEMs for 16hours per day.  We currently offer two Provisional Fellow positions per year for Registrars in their final year of training.  We have a well-developed Primary and Fellowship exam training program and are part of the NSW Fellowship exam course.  We are closely affiliated with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Health Education Simulation Centre and offer a part-time Simulation Fellow job to one of our trainees each year.

We are a rapidly expanding Emergency Department and are looking for enthusiastic staff dedicated to training, education and improving quality and safety standards.
