HSE, University Hospital Waterford

University Hospital Waterford (UHW) is a large university teaching hospital in the South East corner of Ireland and hosts one of the busiest Trauma Orthopaedic centre in the country. It has over 26 different medical and surgical specialties on the campus.

 UHW is a member of the Dublin South East Hospital Group and provides specialised services to the counties of Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, Carlow and Kilkenny.  UHW therefore acts as a regional centre for secondary and tertiary care for the catchment population of circa 520,000. 

UHW has 520 beds and an onsite 20 bed Hospice. a new 4 theatre surgical hub is due to open n Q4 2026 enhancing the current facilities within the hospital. UHW currently employs just short of 3,000(WTE) staff of multiple professions and is a teaching hospital for University College Cork, Royal College of Surgeons Ireland and South East Technological University.
