Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is responsible for providing community health and hospital care for people living in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Lithgow and Penrith Local Government Areas (LGAs) and tertiary care to residents of the Greater Western Region.
The District consists of both urban and semi-rural areas, covering almost 9,179 square kilometres and an estimated resident population of almost 350,000 people. The Dharug, Gundungurra and Wiradjuri people are acknowledged as the traditional Aboriginal owners of the land in the District.
Blue mountains ED in Katoomba currently has 2 Resuscitation bays, 8 acute beds and 4-8 sub acute spaces. We see adults and children. We are able to admit paediatric and medical patients but transfer surgical patients to Nepean Hospital. We have a local and tourist patient base as there is a high tourist population all year to see the beautiful Blue Mountains. The department is small but busy and works well with the admitting physicians, paediatricians and obstetricians. We aim to have 16 hour per day FACEM cover. On day and evening shift you will work with a GP-VMO. Night shifts are covered by a GP-VMO and a junior doctor
