The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for the state of Tasmania. It is the state’s trauma centre, as well as providing a wide variety of specialty services. Our busy, Emergency Department provides care for 70 000 patients annually. Approximately 25% of the case load is paediatric. We also run a 20 bed Emergency Medical Unit. The department is accredited for 36 months of training with ACEM, or two years of advanced training under the pre-2022 program. We have a wide variety of non-ED rotations available, including anaesthetics, intensive care, paediatrics, and medical education/simulation. We have also supported candidates through other rotations including hyperbaric medicine and neonatal/paediatric ICU. Our mixed ED is accredited for the paediatric log book and we have PEMs on staff.
