Lismore Base Hospital is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in hospitals within the beautiful Richmond Network, working under the guidance of highly experienced senior clinicians as part of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine’s training program.
Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is an acute referral hospital of 260 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW. Currently undergoing redevelopment, LBH is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked to the local helicopter retrieval service. It has a new and significantly expanded Emergency department, boasting modern facilities such as expanded Medical Imaging capacity, Streaming, Fast Track zone, ED Short Stay Unit (ED SSU), Resuscitation area and roof-top Helipad.
Lismore City is situated between World Heritage listed rainforest and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay. This area is blessed by year round sun, a tropical climate and a short winter. From lush hinterland villages, to Mount Warning, national parks, and sparkling beaches, the region is full of natural wonders and vibrant destinations all within a short drive from Lismore.
Ballina Hospital is a local community, level 3 rural hospital providing essential care to over 8,300 patients every year. Services provided include Emergency, General Medicine, Aged Care & Rehabilitation and Surgery. The hospital undertakes over 860 surgical procedures and sees over 17,800 Emergency attendances annually. Ballina Hospital is situated in the heart of Ballina, an idyllic coastal playground for lovers of water sports, outdoor adventuring, and a relaxed lifestyle.
Casino and District Hospital is a community rural hospital providing a range of public healthcare services including Emergency and inpatient services.
Lismore, Ballina and Casino Hospitals are affiliated teaching hospitals for medical students from the University of Newcastle, University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney, Bond University, University of Queensland and Griffith University.
The Advanced Trainee is available as a temporary full-time (1.0FTE) training position, or temporary part-time (0.5FTE) training position.

What you'll be doing
The ED Advanced Trainee position will be based in NNSWLHD Emergency Medicine departments, with potential opportunities to rotate through terms in ICU, Medicine, Retrieval and/or Anaesthetics as part of the ED training program and dependent on location within the LHD.
The primary purpose of the Advanced Trainee (AT) in Emergency Medicine is to provide high quality medical care under appropriate supervision to undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED), supporting services in ED with medical input under the guidance of Emergency Physicians and other Senior Medical Officers on call.
Trainees undertaking the care of medical patients should ensure that they operate within their own level of expertise within a collaborative clinical care model and to seek consultation with their colleagues when appropriate.
