Job Description

Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) at Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH), Tasmania, Australia, seeks to recruit:

  • Two Intensive Care Registrars to commence as soon as possible (new positions)
  • One Intensive Care Registrar to commence from 2 August 2021
  • One Intensive Care Senior Registrar to commence from 2 August 2021

The two newly created positions will increase the total registrar pool and are open to start as soon as possible until February 2022.

August positions are initially for 6 months duration however this may be extended for suitable applicants.

Tasmania offers multiple opportunities to balance work with life – with world heritage wilderness, outstanding bush walking, mountain biking, boating, food, wine, and arts.

DCCM is the tertiary referral unit for Tasmania, which includes all major trauma, cardiac and neurosurgery services. Details can be found here

The Senior Registrar position includes ‘first on-call’ after hours from home, supported by a Consultant. It is a genuinely senior role, which requires significant intensive care experience.  It is suitable for near-fellowship or post-fellowship Intensive Care advanced trainees or Anaesthetists/Emergency Physicians who are interested in either gaining more critical care experience or seek dual-Fellowship with CICM. It fulfils all the requirements for CICM Transition Year Fellows. Applicants for Senior Registrar should have at least two years full time Intensive Care Medicine experience, including tertiary intensive care, and should be genuinely independent with advanced procedural and airway management, and resuscitation of the acutely critically ill patient. Advanced ultrasound and echocardiography skills would be very advantageous. Significant teaching experience is highly desirable. Demonstrated high level communication and teamwork skills are essential.

The Registrar positions are suitable for both junior trainees in intensive care, more experienced ICU registrars as well as post-primary CICM trainees and those seeking to sit CICM fellowship exam in the next 2 years.

They are also suitable for experienced ACEM or ANZCA trainees who seek more tertiary critical care exposure than their Colleges demand.

These posts involve shift work and may include some rostered overtime if necessary, to cover leave. We are accredited with CICM for 24 months of tertiary ICU training time including Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery and Trauma Intensive Care.  There is an excellent teaching program, with proven exam success for past trainees.

Online application can be completed (here) and will require an up to date CV, a cover letter outlining career goals and your suitability for the position, and the names and contact details for three referees from your past 2 years of work.

Applications initially close on 18 April 2021, however late applications may be considered.
