Job Description

Emergency Medicine Advanced Trainee positions available for Mid year (August) commencement of 2021 Clinical Year for a Length of Training Contract (up to 4 years).

 

Lismore Base Hospital is the recognized Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region linked to the local Medical Retrieval service.

 

*** ACEM Training from PT to Fellow can be undertaken with the Richmond Medical Workforce in Northern NSW ***

 

*** Rotations available Emergency Medicine – Retrieval Medicine – ICU – Anaesthetics – Rural Emergency Medicine – Metropolitan ***

 

Richmond Emergency Medicine Trainees may have the option of an accredited rotation in Medical Retrieval, Anaesthetics, or ICU dependent upon training and workforce needs. Suitable candidates may also undertake an accredited rotation to our regional Emergency Departments at Ballina and Casino.

 

The Advanced Trainee position is available as a temporary full-time training position, or temporary part-time (0.5FTE) training position.

 

The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in hospitals within the beautiful Richmond Network, working under the guidance of highly experienced senior clinicians as part of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine’s training program.

 

Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is an acute referral hospital of 260 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW. LBH is the recognized Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked to the local helicopter retrieval service. It has a new and significantly expanded Emergency department, boasting modern facilities such as expanded Medical Imaging capacity, Streaming, Fast Track zone, ED Short Stay Unit (ED SSU), Resuscitation area and roof top Helipad.

 

Lismore City is situated between World Heritage listed rainforest and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay. This area is blessed by year round sun, a tropical climate and a short winter. From lush hinterland villages, to Mount Warning, national parks, and sparkling beaches, the region is full of natural wonders and vibrant destinations all within a short drive from Lismore.

 

Ballina Hospital is a local community, level 3 rural hospital providing essential care to over 8,300 patients every year. Services provided include Emergency, General Medicine, Aged Care & Rehabilitation and Surgery. The hospital undertakes over 860 surgical procedures and sees over 17,800 Emergency attendances annually. Ballina Hospital is situated in the heart of Ballina, an idyllic coastal playground for lovers of water sports, outdoor adventuring, and a relaxed lifestyle.

 

Casino and District Memorial Hospital is a local community, level 3 Acute Care rural hospital providing care to over 2,800 patients every year. The hospital undertakes over 940 surgical procedures and sees over 14,500 Emergency attendances annually.

Our network has a strong passion for providing quality education and training with a clinical diversity for medical officers in rural locations. Weekly four-hour paid education sessions are facilitated by our DEMTs for ACEM trainees. Sessions are curriculum focused and include clinical skills, simulation, case and/or journal reviews, detailed topics and guest presenters. We have targeted sessions each month for paediatrics, trauma and toxicology.

Our DEMTs also facilitate a monthly intense simulation session at the University Centre for Rural Health Simulation Centre with a different guest specialty each session. There are two ACEM examiners on staff and we have an excellent examination success record in both the Primary and Fellowship examinations.

Both Lismore and Ballina Hospitals are affiliated teaching hospitals for medical students from the University of Newcastle, University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of Western Sydney, Bond University, University of Queensland and Griffith University. The hospitals have a strong commitment to teaching and support for its Junior Medical Officers.
