The role:

We are currently running our annual campaign for Aeromedical Retrieval Registrars. If you have a background in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care, this could be the exciting opportunity you are looking for to launch your career as a Retrieval Doctor. We employ up to 24 Registrars annually, with the positions being full time, and based in Sydney. Opportunities are available for 6 or 12 month placements, and can be accredited by ANZCA, ACEM and CICM.

 

Our recruitment dates align with the NSW Health recruitment campaign and our star dates align with the NSW hospital clinical year in February and August.

As a Retrieval Registrar with CareFlight you will manage critically ill and injured patients in the pre-hospital, interhospital and international retrieval environments. You will transport patients via helicopter, road and fixed wing, at times with limited resources. Based at Bankstown airport, you will experience rotations to the busy regional helicopter base at Orange, 300km west of Sydney.

 

We also have opportunities for Registrars to deliver pre-hospital trauma care on the CareFlight rapid response helicopter based in Westmead. This role involves both paediatric (medical and trauma) and adult (trauma) rapid response.  In addition, there is research involvement with a new pre-hospital research program, and International Retrieval experience.

 

Previous retrieval experience is not required as CareFlight’s comprehensive induction and ongoing education program will build on the critical care knowledge you bring with you to this job.

 

CareFlight also take the hassle out of coming to Australia by assisting with visa application, college accreditation and Australian medical registration needs.

 

Experience required for these roles:

  • Advanced trainee (AT4), Provisional Fellow, or Specialist in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care.
  • International applicants must be senior registrars or consultants in Anaesthesia, Emergency Medicine or Intensive Care. UK applicants – completion of ST4 (plus FRCA for Anaesthesia).
  • Completion of ATLS / EMST or equivalent.
  • Experience in the care of critically ill patients (including trauma), and able to adapt clinical practice to work independently in both the pre-hospital and interhospital environment.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be capable of meeting the physical requirements of the role and be able to work competently at heights (including helicopter winching) and in water.
  • Be prepared to complete Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET).
  • Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (or eligible for registration).
  • Hold a current passport and drivers licence.

 

In order to be successful in this role, all candidates are required to complete a pre-employment fitness assessment. For local candidates, fitness assessments will be held on Sunday, 26 July 2020 (for Anaesthesia applicants) and Sunday, 23 August 2020 (for Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care applicants). Alternative arrangements will be made for interstate/ overseas candidates.
