Whanganui District Health Board (WDHB) is seeking applications from a suitably qualified and competent Director of Emergency Medicine Training (DEMT)

 About the role:

The WDHB Emergency Department will be applying for ACEM (Australasian College of Medicine), accreditation within the following year.  A DEMT is required to create and implement the ACEM training model for the registrars and to work clinical shifts within the department. 

  • We are looking for a highly motivated self-starter who would be willing to take on responsibility for the implementation of the ACEM teaching curriculum and assist the ED in meeting accreditation requirements.
  • This individual will be taking a large part in writing the application for accreditation and creating the necessary supporting materials.
  • The role is for a permanent, full time position.
  • The DEMT will be responsible for the training of registrars and RMOs as well as working at least half-time clinical shifts.
  • Applicants should be Fellows of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) and have at least three years post-fellowship experience at the start of the position.

 About the organisation: 

  • Wanganui Hospital is located on the West coast of New Zealand’s North Island, with a wide range of services including emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedics, O&G, ENT, ophthalmology, dentistry and psychiatry.
  • We provide a six bed critical care unit with tertiary support from Wellington Hospital. We are able to keep ventilated patients for one or two days, but if required for a longer period, they will be transferred to Wellington.
  • The anaesthetics department provides a daily acute pain service, as well as chronic pain clinics.
  • Tertiary services such as cardio-thoracics, neurosurgery, paediatric surgery and cardiology are provided for our patients in Wellington.
