  • Sunshine Coast Emergency Medicine Training Network
  • Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Doherty Street, Birtinya QLD, Australia
Full time Health Care

Job Description

The doors are open for motivated and enthusiastic Emergency Medicine Registrars to join our training network of Emergency Departments within the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (SCHHS).  Positions are available from NOW- Feb 2021, with flexible FTE and duration of employment.

We are looking for ACEM trainees who are passionate about delivering excellent emergency medical care and motivated to immerse themselves within our established training network to maximise their training potential.

The Sunshine Coast Emergency Medicine Training Network is comprised of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH), Nambour General Hospital (NGH) and Gympie Hospital.  SCUH is a major referral emergency department accredited for 24 months of ACEM advanced training, with a co-located Paediatric Emergency Department accredited for a further 6 months of training.  NGH Emergency Department is a mixed rural/regional site with 12 months accreditation for ACEM training.  Gympie Hospital Emergency Department is currently approved for 6 months ACEM training.  Within the network, there is access to inpatient services across most specialties including trauma service, adult and paediatric intensive care and all medical subspecialties.  Surgical Subspecialties are also present with cardiothoracic surgery expected to commence in the near future.  We recognise the challenges Emergency Medicine faces, and our departments pride itself on proactive ED flow initiatives in addition to innovative and progressive Models of Care within special interest areas including the internationally recognised Geriatric Emergency Department Initiative, integrated ED mental health, ED palliative care and toxicology/toxinology.

For the successful applicants, exposure can be gained in all aspects of emergency medicine from tertiary to rural and adult to paediatrics.  In addition, access to critical care terms such as ICU and anaesthetics, and non ED terms such as general medicine, paediatric medicine, simulation/medical education and retrieval medicine (Lifeflight) is provided to allow the trainee to develop into a well-rounded FACEM.

Education has a strong focus within our training network. Trainees at all sites are provided rostered and protected time to attend a dedicated education program which caters for trainees at all stages of ACEM training.  Through the collective involvement of our large cohort of enthusiastic Emergency Physicians, we run successful Primary and Fellowship Examination preparation programs, a well-received “Good Doctor” program and healthcare simulation within world class facilities at the Sunshine Coast Health Institute.  Embedded within your clinical experience include access to WBA and CCPU led in-line ultrasound training to bridge the gap between service provision and your training. Our passion for translating education into tangible outcomes drives an educational approach that is immersive, interactive and collaborative.

So come join us, between the sprawling hinterlands and world class beaches of the Sunshine Coast.  It is a great place to work, play and live!
