Job Description

Albury Wodonga Health is seeking Emergency Medicine Registrars to work in its Emergency Department.

The Opportunity

The Emergency Department is newly accredited with ACEM for 6 months. This position is well suited for pre-primary as well as advanced ACEM trainees.
We provide an excellent environment to develop your skills as you make the transition to becoming an Emergency Physician. The team includes a friendly and dynamic group of specialists who provide on the floor supervision. Their focus is on delivering high quality clinical care that exceeds patients’ expectations. The teaching opportunities are enthusiastically utilised and a comprehensive approach to Workplace Based Assessments (WBA) making it easy to obtain the required number for training purposes.
Protected registrar teaching time is rostered weekly. We also offer mentoring which is beneficial to foster your career development, job satisfaction and work life balance.
The successful applicant will:

  • Have completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent with at least 2 years clinical experience.
  • Have current and relevant registration with AHPRA.
  • Be a member of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM).
  • Be passionate about patient care and achieving high quality medical outcomes.
  • Have well-developed and effective cross-department relationship management skills with high level time management, problem solving and communication (both written and verbal) skills. 

The Department

The Emergency Department has approximately 60,000 presentations per year with an admission rate of 20% and paediatric presentations of 25%. Albury Wodonga Health is the Regional Trauma Referral Centre dealing with the full spectrum of Emergency Care with trauma and resuscitation.

We have a strong and innovative clinical practice with ongoing development of point of care clinical ultrasound, procedural sedation, non-invasive and invasive ventilation, and toxicology and a highly developed research unit.

The Emergency Department enjoys close working relationships with other specialities within the organisation – ICU, Medicine, Surgery, Urology, Orthopaedics, Obs & Gyn and Paediatrics. There is excellent Mental Health support onsite. The new $65 million Regional Cancer Centre is also located onsite for ongoing Oncology support. AWH have recently opened its first Cath lab and plans are underway for a new and improved 60 bed emergency department. AWH anaesthetics department also has 2 years accreditation.

The department is also supported with 24 hour imaging and pathology services.

Our region

Albury Wodonga is the first cross border public health service to exist in Australia. Regionally situated between Sydney and Melbourne, it directly serves a local community of 100,000 and supports a catchment population of 250,000 covering North East Victoria and Southern New South Wales.

  • Two community rehabilitation centres located at the Albury and Wodonga Hospitals.
  • Wodonga Dental Clinic.
