Overview
Alumni Global is proud to partner with Gold Coast Health to recruit two Clinical Directors of Emergency Care Services. These senior leadership positions are based at Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) and at Robina Hospital inclusive of Tugun Satellite Health Centre’s Minor Injury and Illness Clinic. Both roles combine clinical presence with significant strategic and operational responsibility, offering a career-defining opportunity to influence emergency care delivery across a rapidly growing population.
About the Gold Coast and Gold Coast Health
The Gold Coast’s population reached 681,389 as of June 30, 2024, reflecting a 2.29% increase in the past year. The city is projected to grow to one million residents by 2040. To support this expansion, a new 600-bed hospital is currently under construction to the north of the region. Gold Coast Health serves this diverse and expanding population of more than 740,000 through world-class facilities, values-driven care and a strong culture of equity and inclusion.
About the Roles
At Gold Coast University Hospital, one of Queensland’s largest clinical teaching and research facilities, the emergency department has become the busiest in Australia since its opening in 2013. In 2024/25, more than 124,000 presentations were treated, an average of 342 per day, with around 108 ambulance arrivals daily. A newly expanded triage area, innovative care models such as rapid Category 2 chest pain pathways and extended Minor Injuries and Illness Clinic hours have supported patient outcomes. Thirty percent of presentations were Category 1 or 2, reflecting the level of high acuity within the department.
At Robina Hospital, the second largest emergency department on the Gold Coast, over 71,500 presentations were managed in 2024/25, a 9.6% increase on the previous year. This represented an average of 196 presentations per day, with 79 ambulance arrivals daily. Robina’s capacity expanded with a 20-bed extension in 2024, while the Tugun Satellite Health Centre Minor Injuries and Illness Clinic treated more than 23,700 presentations. Twenty-four percent of Robina’s presentations were Category 1 or 2, with significant representation of adult and elderly patients, aligned with regional demographic trends.
In addition to hospital-based responsibilities, both Clinical Directors will also lead Gold Coast Health’s medical response at major community events such as the Gold Coast Marathon and Schoolies, ensuring safe, coordinated and high-quality care through collaboration with Queensland Ambulance Service and partner agencies.
The Clinical Director of Emergency Care Services positions will be appointed for three years, with the possibility of extension for a further two years. The permanent appointment will be as a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist Emergency Physician.
