Come and join our energetic ED Ultrasound team at Nepean Hospital. This position is for Advanced Trainees in Emergency Medicine who would like to complete their special skills term in Emergency Ultrasound training. During your rotation you will work 20 hours per week (2x 10 hour shifts) in ED and 20 hours per week (5x 8 hour shifts per fortnight) in ultrasound training.
Dr Vijay Manivel is the principal supervisor for the ultrasound term and holds a Diploma of Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU) in Emergency. He trains many other DDU candidates to pass their exams. They have developed skills and qualifications including CCPU modules in echocardiography, eFAST, AAA, vascular access, biliary, renal, first trimester pregnancy and DVT.
Trainees get hands on training with transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasound scanning in early pregnancy. This is both within the ED and in the Acute Gynae service. Nepean is one of the only EDs that perform transvaginal ultrasound in the Emergency Department.
Time is also spent within the internationally renowned echocardiography vascular lab run by Nepean Intensive Care / Critical Care physicians. The Cardiovascular Ultrasound department plays a large role in training critical care physicians throughout Australia and overseas. General ultrasound experience is gained within the Radiology department.
