Brisbane Northside Emergency (BNE) is a private, fee-for-service emergency department open 24 hours, 7 days a week. 

Expert medical care is provided by experienced emergency medicine specialists.

BNE supports St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside, one of Queensland’s top private acute tertiary hospitals.

Located in the Brisbane northern suburb of Chermside, BNE is also co-located on the same campus as The Prince Charles Hospital (public).

What makes BNE different

Owned and managed by emergency medicine specialists, BNE’s practice model is unique. Our team operate as independent, fee-for-service entities, each managing their practice through separate medical companies (providing significant tax and business benefits to each doctor).

Functioning akin to a private radiology/pathology unit provides control over service delivery. Our link to St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside provides direct access to an inpatient facility with a full suite of medical support and consultation with VMO Specialists. 

All interactions are with senior specialists (ie. no Registrars). Part of our quality process is that these senior specialists provide you with letters of feedback about your patient’s progress and findings, creating a quality loop.

This is not a salaried position and not subject to award rates of pay. Remuneration is well-above similar public ED positions. 

The role is completely flexible – YOU elect the number of shifts (6–8 hours, not 10!) per month. Rosters are coordinated collectively by all within our specialist team.

Advanced Training Registrars can obtain access to provider numbers at BNE. This means you have the option to supplement your current working arrangements with the flexibility of additional shifts at BNE.

Our patients are as varied as the reasons they visit BNE! We treat adults, children and elderly individuals, all with the common purpose – to receive the highest level of medical care, in a timely manner. 

Presentations to BNE are predominantly high acuity, with high admission rates and low ambulatory care numbers. Over 90% of our clients are repeat patients – testament to the quality of service, staffing and care we provide.
