Exciting Opportunities at Albury Wodonga Health Emergency Departments

Are you interested in a long-term regional role or looking to take a break from city life while continuing to engage in a challenging and varied practice? Albury Wodonga Health emergency departments provide an inclusive, multidisciplinary environment where rural generalists collaborate with emergency specialists to deliver quality-driven care with kindness to both staff and patients

About us

  • Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) is the largest regional health service in our area

  • Brand new ED on the Albury Campus

  • Catchment of 250,000+ residents.

  • More than 64000 presentations per year

  • 26% admission rate

  • 40% paediatrics

  • Amazing case mix with high acuity.

Your experience here offers a wealth of opportunities to undertake procedures, WBAs and complete your paediatric logbook. Working in a regional department gives you the opportunity to sharpen your clinical decision skill and risk assessment, where you are hands-on at all stages in a patients journey through the ED.

Advanced trainees are well supported in the in-charge role to develop managerial and leadership experience, and guided on the transition towards their consultant career. Fellowship preparation is rounded out with trainee representation at senior staff meetings, quality improvement activities and audits.

“AWH is an excellent place to train and I like that the overall focus is not only on passing exams but on the real goal of learning to be a good FACEM.” – Lucy Schofield (previous AT registrar, now FACEM)

  • Weekly protected teaching is conducted to foster a team environment. We are proud to say that over the last 3 years we have remained committed to the growth of our trainees, and have never cancelled teaching despite the demands of the pandemic and department.

  • Education includes a mixture of styles and presenters, across workshops, simulation and lectures.

The nurses, doctors and other support staff are one of a kind in their sense of dedication to the field of emergency medicine, their sense of camaraderie and fellowship, humour, compassion, expertise and knowledge."- Eldar Redzepagic, ACEM trainee

We are expanding our team and would like to invite registrars from all levels to apply. Two-year contracts available for rotations including

  • Ultrasound special skills

  • Anaesthetics (6 months)

  • ICU (3-6 months)

  • Mental Health

  • Obstetrics and Gynaecology

  • General Medicine

We are also offering opportunities at a TS4 level with non clinical  opportunities in clinical governance, education and leadership as well as rotations to other specialties.

Life outside work

This is a very family friendly town, where the commute home is minutes not hours, so you can make the most of your down time to explore the area. Surrounded by rolling green hills and moments from the mighty Murray River and Lake Hume, the region offers a myriad of opportunities to engage with nature or indulge the palate. Extensive hiking and mountain bike tracks weave through the countryside. Whilst winters are crisp and cold, they also bring the opportunity to ski the slopes of nearby Mt Hotham and Falls Creek.
