Auckland is New Zealand's largest, diverse and most popular city, nestled on one of the world’s best harbours. It offers a metropolitan lifestyle mixed with the great outdoors; from cafes and restaurants to our stunning beaches, parks and marinas providing a beautiful natural landscape that us Kiwis are proud of.
Counties Manukau Health (CM Health), based in South Auckland, is a unique and dynamic organization where every day is exciting! If you are an advanced trainee and keen to gain experience at a senior level in General Intensive Care then look no further.
For a health career packed with benefits, you won’t find much better than at CM Health. We are pretty unique in terms of the diverse population we serve and the medical challenges we face and that all adds up to a great place to learn as a senior trainee.
We are offering a six or twelve month funded Fellowship in our Critical Care Complex, based at Middlemore Hospital.
Admission numbers are around 1400 per year to the Complex (ICU/HDU) with 80% of these as acute admissions. We are a supra-regional spinal injury service and care for severe burns as part of the National Burn Service taking patients from throughout New Zealand. Additionally, we admit around 150 paediatric patients each year and are involved in paediatric resuscitation in the Emergency Department.
The successful applicant will have previous experience of Intensive Care clinical practice at Registrar level and be looking to pursue a career in Intensive Care Medicine. It is desirable that you have sat and passed an Australasian fellowship exam in either Intensive care medicine or one of its related specialties. Previous paediatric experience would be ideal.
The job meets the requirements of the CICM Transition year for those who have already completed the exam and project but we would also consider those looking to complete their exam or project during the year if they have suitable previous experience.
You will work on the Specialist roster under supervision and have responsibility for some quality improvement initiatives, and registrar rostering. There is scope to expand this role into outreach or clinical skills teaching if desired.
Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand is essential, with a current Annual Practising Certificate.
