Job Description

St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals has a total of 367 beds, 307 for public patients and 60 for private patients, is conveniently located within one complex, bringing health care closer to home. 

 The Position

We are currently recruiting a Medical Education & Simulation Registrar - Emergency Medicine to join the team on a part-time fixed term basis commencing February 2025. Contracts can be offered for 6 - 12 months. We can offer  6 month accreditation with ACEM as Special Skills Placement

The role will enable you to develop as an educator with the opportunity to gain skills in simulation design, events managing and debriefing multidisciplinary in situ simulations. Opportunities to deliver novel group simulations and to run monthly immersive multidisciplinary simulations at the nearby Curtin Sim Lab. Furthermore there is an opportunity to develop and refine debriefing and feedback skills. The role will enable you to gain experience in developing and delivering a wide variety of teaching sessions for the Registrar & RMO education program. You will have the opportunity to attend weekly Registrar teaching and participate in departmental projects. There is a dedicated weekly education curriculum to assist your development as a Medical Education and Simulation Registrar 

Emergency Department

  •  48-bedded department which commenced service in November 2015
  • 77,000 presentations per year with an admission rate of approximately 30%
  • FACEM-lead team-based care
  • Excellent, varied case-mix providing a broad clinical experience. This  includes Paediatrics (aprroximately 17% of presentation), Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Stroke Service. 

Training Opportunities:

  • Tier 1 – 36 month accreditation with ACEM
  • Paediatric log book accredited
  • Designated non-clinical FACEMs Monday to Friday to supervise WBAs
  • Four hours weekly protected teaching time
  • Additional multidisciplinary weekly education program consisting of In Situ Simulation, Journal Club and  Mortality & Morbidity meetings
  • ACEM Primary and Fellowship Exam preparation programs
  • One-on-one bedside ultrasound teaching by a certified Sonographer to gain skills in AAA and eFAST as well as fulfil CCPU requirements

  • BeFACEM –  FACEM “finishing school” style education program focusing on supporting Senior Registrars fulfil Training Stage 4 requirements and  acquiring the leadership skills to transition into a capable junior FACEM

The successful candidate will have:

  • General registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • An interest in pursuing further training in medical education and simulation
  • Demonstrated clinical and procedural experience in an equivalent ED setting
  • Advanced ACEM trainee or equivalent
