Salary $89,253 – $144,291 (from 14/4/24, based on experience)

Salary based on 38 hour week, additional earning potential with overtime and penalty rates, as well as 11% superannuation

Professional development allowance of up to $8,500 per annum available to eligible candidates.

The SALHN EDs are located at the base of the Adelaide Hills and near the world-famous McLaren Vale wine region and southern coastline. The region has everything to offer for people who enjoy working hard but love access to variety in their downtime.

Working at SALHN will give you access to two ACEM accredited training sites:

Flinders Medical Centre ED

Noarlunga Hospital ED

Flinders Medical Centre is the Major Referral centre and teaching hospital for Southern Adelaide, with 80,000 presentations to the Emergency Department each year. It is one of only two level 1 trauma centres and the dedicated obstetric trauma centre for South Australia. As the only South Australian ED to offer major trauma, obstetrics, gynaecology, and paediatrics under one roof, it is the perfect place to develop the essential skills required to become a well-rounded Emergency Physician. There is co-located Paediatric ED within the FMC ED staffed by supportive PEM consultants, also accredited for ACEM training as a Non-Specialist PED.

The Noarlunga Hospital Emergency Department is accredited as a Non-Major Referral Centre for ACEM training. It sees approximately 43,000 presentations per year, has a dedicated space for paediatric presentations and a co-located ED short-stay unit.

Residents working with us are encouraged and supported to take part in the ACEM-accredited Emergency Medicine Certificate or Diploma. Both departments are also great places to gather skills for future careers in General Practice, Critical Care specialities and Paediatrics.

Registrar and Residents who apply will be supported by consultant medical staff at both sites, with a consultant presence on the floor for at least 16 hours per day, and on call and available overnight.

Training is given a high priority with protected teaching time available for both ACEM trainees and Resident medical officers. There is also access to professional development allowance and leave for eligible candidates to assist with further skills development.

SALHN EDs value our staff and offer flexible roster options including fractional FTE and paired rosters for doctors living within the same household. Rosters operate around a 10-hour shift pattern with 8 x 10 hour shifts a fortnight for full time. The shifts cover early, late and night shifts, 365 days per year and the department can accommodate flexibility.

In this role, you will be responsible for the provision of integrated patient care activities, with assistance and guidance from ED Registrars/Consultants. Your duties will include acting as a role model and mentor for medical students and interns, ensuring effective communication with other care providers to promote continuity of care, providing appropriate clinical care to patients, and coordinating follow-up care.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have successfully completed one year of Internship, basic but developing skills appropriate to Emergency Medicine, the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including colleagues, other professional staff and patients, and commitment to providing a quality service to patients and their families.
