Located in the middle of Australia, based in Alice Springs, the Central Australian retrieval service offers a unique opportunity to practice retrieval medicine in a remote and harsh environment. We are looking for retrieval consultants and fellows, who are interested in furthering their skills and working with our team to provide critical care to patients within our 1.6 million square kilometre catchment area.
Launched in February 2018, the Alice Springs Hospital commenced a new streamlined model for retrieval medicine in Central Australia. The Medical Retrieval and Consultation Centre (MRaCC) is staffed by critical care specialists, and located on campus between the Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit. The MRaCC provides a single point of contact for remote practitioners to access expert clinical advice, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Co-location within the hospital allows the service to maintain strong working relationships with inpatient teams, facilitating good communication and integrated patient care.
Alice Springs hospital is a ~ 200 bed facility, with a busy mixed Emergency Department seeing 49000+ presentations per year. It is the only major receiving hospital in the area, Whilst patients needing specific tertiary services are transferred to either Adelaide or Darwin, most critical care patients are managed locally. You will see some of the most interesting and challenging medicine in Australia, and have the unique opportunity to follow the entire patient’s journey from the initial phone call, to hospital discharge.

On commencement, if new to the Central Australian Retrieval Service, you will be required to undertake and period of clinical induction and supervised co-ordination training.
