  • Salary: $224,228 to $295,452 p.a. (Pro-Rata) - MD2 plus superannuation

Consultants holding fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) are entitled to a 67% Attraction and Retention Allowance. With the addition of this allowance, the salary range for these Consultants, exclusive of superannuation is $374,460.76 to $493,404.84 per annum.

In addition to the salaries and allowances noted above, Consultants may be industrially entitled to other allowances or entitlements in accordance with the SA Health Salaried Medical Officers Enterprise Agreement 2022 (for example, an On-Call allowance).

SA Health are seeking qualified Emergency Medicine Medical Specialists  who bring to the role experience gained across regional or metropolitan Emergency Medicine departments across Australia, New Zealand or an equivalent setting.

About the role:

As the Emergency Consultant, you will provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Emergency Department patients at various South Australian Metropolitan locations. You will engage as part of a high performing multi-disciplinary team who prides themselves on teamwork, communication and excellence in Emergency Care.

You will utilise your experience and knowledge to provide vital supervision, support and education to Senior Medical Practitioners, Trainee Medical Officers, Medical Students in the Unit, as well as other staff training within Southern Adelaide Local Health Network.

You will work alongside a wide range of highly regarded Fellows of both the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine, and Paediatric Emergency Medicine who have a depth of expertise in Trauma, Paediatrics, Research, Well-being, Leadership and Training.

The Emergency Consultant is required to:

  • To provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Emergency Department patients, both in terms of individual performance and by clinical leadership and contribution to a multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of patient care.
  • Provide a professional medical service in accordance with Departmental, Hospital and regional policy manuals and documents, and with the Professional standards of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine.
  • Active involvement in teaching Trainee Medical Officers, interns and medical students and, where appropriate, nursing and allied health.
  • Participation in clinical audit and quality, safety and clinical risk management activities.
  • Participation in research and continuous medical education activities.

Special Conditions

  • Fellow of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent qualification registrable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Specialist in Emergency Medicine (or other as applicable).
  • A Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
  • Experience with the supervision and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
  • Demonstrated participation in approved continuing medical education since attaining specialist qualification.
  • Extensive clinical experience relevant to work in an ED.
  • Excellent Teamwork and Communication skills.
  • Out of hours work will be required.
