Job Description

Applications are sought from suitably qualified consultant emergency physicians for a Staff Specialist role in our Emergency Department at John Hunter Hospital. This role is to provide contemporary comprehensive specialist services for optimal patient outcomes in the Emergency Department.

John Hunter Hospital is the largest hospital in Hunter New England Local Health District with approximately 650 beds and growing and we have strong, innovative connections with Hunter Medical Research Institute and University of Newcastle.

 

John Hunter Hospital contains the only trauma centre in New South Wales outside the Sydney Metropolitan Area, and has the busiest emergency department in the state. We provide primary and tertiary trauma services to the people of the Hunter Valley and tertiary trauma services to the people of the Central Coast, New England, and Mid North Coast regions of New South Wales.

 

With support from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and NSW Ambulance, the hospital provides a retrieval service for critically ill patients from the Hunter and North Coast.​

 

Some requirements of the role:

·         Applicants must possess a primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA and hold Fellowship with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine or be due for completion within the next six (6) months.

·         Admitting, consultative, diagnostic, procedural, outpatient, telehealth and on-call services as determined and required by HNELHD

·         Attendance and availability during rostered work hours and whilst on-call including clinical handover, clinical supervision, teaching and for emergency and routine care as determined and required by HNELHD.

·         Provision of education and research as determined and required by HNELHD
