Emergency Department - Senior Research Registrar Position - 2020

Full time, Flexible start time, prefer February 2020, 12 month contract

 The role:

We are offering an unusual and exciting paid opportunity to undertake a research project whilst working in an outstanding private tertiary Emergency Department in central Melbourne. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and interested in practical and formal training in clinical research, have strong clinical skills coupled with compassion and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Cabrini Hospital is a Private not-for-profit Catholic health service delivering excellence in health care. Our ED is at Cabrini Malvern, a Tertiary 508-bed acute hospital with inpatient services across all specialties including Cardiology (24/7 Catherisation lab access), Oncology, Neurosurgery, Cardiothoracics, Obstetrics, Plastics, ICU and Paediatrics

Our ED is resource rich and excels in clinical care by senior physicians. If your patient needs an investigation or consultant opinion, we are able to deliver it to them (24/7. We are 28-bed department with 24,000 attendances per annum and an admission rate of 40%. We have ACEM accreditation for 12 months of advanced training and Paediatric Log Book. We have a caring workforce and culture.

The successful candidate will be offered an ACEM accredited research-training program. They will develop a research project on arrival at the department and then will develop their research skills by undertaking and completing their project during the year. In addition, they will be offered exposure to peer-review, research ethics and governance, philanthropy and trial networks. They will work 2 clinical shifts per week and 2 research days per week. The project will meet the requirements for regulation 4.10 by research and publication will be required. The year will be accredited as advanced ED training.

We will provide weekly research education and supervision along with excellent clinical training. We have a highly successful clinical education program for senior trainees. You will be collaborating with expert researchers, supported by the Cabrini Institute, Cabrini Foundation and Monash University.

We require the candidate to demonstrate interest in Emergency Medicine research, as well as organisational skills and the ability to plan and meet deadlines. We also require the candidate to be highly skilled clinically, with enough experience to manage critically unwell patients and their families. Candidates should not be undertaking their fellowship exam during this year to allow them to concentrate on research. This role is family friendly and allows flexibility for those with other responsibilities.
