·        Maitland ED is a busy non-major Referral, Tier 2 site for ACEM training that sees 55,000 presentations per annum with an 18% admission rate and 24% of all presentations are pediatric.  It services a growing community and provides additional support to many of the smaller rural and remote sites in the Hunter Valley as a referral site and through the use of telehealth.

·        Expansion of services within the hospital have increased the variety and acuity of patients presenting to Maitland ED in recent years, seeing a wide range general medical, surgical, orthopedic, obstetric and paediatric cases. In addition to the case-mix, acuity and teaching opportunities available at Maitland, Staff Specialists from Maitland get firsthand experience of rural ED practice rotating out to work at Cessnock ED which is only 40min drive from our new Maitland Hospital and a 50 minute drive from Newcastle, located in the beautiful Hunter Valley. Orthopaedic

·        Recently opened in January 2022 our new hospital is designed to continue meeting the growing health service needs for Maitland and the surrounding communities of the Hunter Valley, now and into the future.

·        Maitland Hospital has been built to provide patients with high quality care in a modern and comfortable environment and it embraces technology and innovation, allowing staff new, improved ways to work that will deliver better health outcomes.
