We have an active Ultrasound programme, employing one of only a few DDU holders in NZ. The POCUS Fellowship programme is a new initiative for 2022/23, aiming to upskill both individuals and the department as a whole and to provide an ED POCUS service during office hours. We have multiple FACEMs with post graduate qualifications in POCUS and perform a wide range of scans.

Successful candidates will work a mixture of ED and dedicated POCUS scanning shifts; flexible and part time hours are considered. Fellows will gain the opportunity for one on one tutoring with ED sonologists and expert sonographers in the Waikato Hospital Ultrasound department. Support and supervision is provided for a range of post graduate POCUS qualifications including the ASUM CCPU and DDU.

Our medical roster provides SMO cover 18 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a minimum of 3 SMOs on each shift.  You will enjoy working as part of a team, and enjoy supervising the junior staff.  We also provide some support to the rural EDs in the DHB; sessional appointments across more than one site are available.

Joining a friendly and dynamic team of 25 Emergency Physicians providing care to all patients. You will enjoy working in a multidisciplinary team environment. Clinical support duties are varied, with a wide range of opportunities, including the chance to participate on a broad level if desired - one of our team has recently been the ACEM president, and another has been a NZ representative on the International Resuscitation Council.
