Armidale Rural Referral Hospital is seeking the services of a Clinical Director of Emergency Medicine to lead its Emergency Department.  You will work with a team of emergency medicine specialists including FACEMS, Career Medical Officers in Emergency Medicine, Visiting Medical Officers in General Practice and a nursing team that boasts extensive experience in delivering emergency care.

You will be responsible for the provision of direct patient care, daily clinical supervision and management of Emergency Department (ED) Services. You will deliver, as part of a small dedicated team of emergency specialists, excellence in clinical care every patient, every time. You will promote seamless continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient services. Lifestyle and variety is the key attraction for regional emergency medicine. Armidale Hospital is a ninety nine bed facility providing a comprehensive range of services including acute medical and surgical services, obstetrics, paediatrics and a range of diagnostic and allied health services. A busy emergency department, a Level 3 Close Observation Unit, mental health unit and renal dialysis unit. The referral community of the area is 55,200. Adult Medical services include respiratory, cardiac, chemotherapy, renal and palliative care. Surgical services include general, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology and ophthalmology. The hospital is a spacious, modern and well-equipped with the most recent development opening in 2019.

Tablelands Clinical School is part of the UON and UNE Joint Medical Program. Medical students undertake clinical placements and attend teaching at the clinical school which is exceptionally well resourced with simulation laboratories and tutorial rooms.

Armidale is set high on the picturesque Northern Tablelands and is known for its beautiful tree lined streets and magnificent autumn colours and has a distinctive seasonal climate. Armidale is located midway between Sydney and Brisbane on the New England Highway with an abundance of transport options between the major cities. The region offers diversity in outdoor activities such as bushwalking in the nearby World Heritage listed National Parks offering spectacular gorges and waterfalls in Australia. Armidale is a an educational centre featuring a university, as well as public and private schools, and a regional conservatorium each providing a level of education comparable to any capital city in Australia.

•    Eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Emergency Physician, and/or overseas trained specialist pathways.
•    Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine
•    Demonstrated recent clinical experience in Emergency Medicine at the role delineation of the service.
•    Evidence of being a medical expert, demonstrated by recent and comprehensive experience in emergency medicine.
•    Evidence of being a scholar, maintains medical professional development and has the ability to assist other staff, including trainees in the acquisition and development of knowledge.
•    Evidence of being a skilled communicator, including both oral and written skills, communicating with patients, students, other health professionals and the public. 
•    Evidence of being a collaborator, including the ability to network and operate within an interdisciplinary framework and to work with other stakeholders in a variety of settings. 
•    Evidence of being a manager, including ability to be flexible and cope with a changing health system, past leadership and management experience and previous safety and quality improvement activities. 
•    Evidence of being a professional, including continued professional development, peer review and other forms of clinical governance. 
•    Evidence of being an advocate, including contributions to improving individual and societal health.
