Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced emergency physician to join us as the Acting Director of the Emergency Department. The position is based at Werribee Mercy Hospital which is the fastest growing region in Melbourne.


Werribee Mercy Hospital is embarking on a bold development of expansion with a new 24 bed modular short stay unit and plans for a brand new 2 level emergency department and an additional clinical subspecialties in a new state of the art tower.



The Director of the Emergency Department will be responsible for the day to day clinical management and performance of the department and work closely with the Nurse Unit Managers of the Emergency Department and Short Stay Unit, Deputy Directors, Program executive and relevant clinical units to support the delivery of the highest levels of patient care and operational performance. The successful candidate will be an inspirational leader with demonstrated excellence in clinical service delivery, solution based thinking and well-developed communication, negotiation and presentation skills.

This is a fixed term full time position with an appropriate clinical load.


There are opportunities to arrange a suitable honorary academic position with the co-located University of Notre Dame Medical School.



  • Appointees must be legally qualified practitioners, registered or registrable with AHPRA without conditions, undertakings or reprimands.
  • Fellow of the Australasian College for Emergency Physicians (FACEM)
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior clinical leader with operational experience
  • Ability to provide strategic focus and direction and foster a culture of quality and service improvement
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team



Werribee Mercy Hospital is a General Public Hospital located in the rapidly growing Western suburbs of Melbourne.
