The Position

St John of God Midland Public & Private Hospitals has a total of 367 beds, 307 for public patients and 60 for private patients, is conveniently located within one complex, bringing health care closer to home. 

We are currently recruiting a Medical Education & Simulation Registrar - Emergency Medicine to join the team on a full time, fixed term basis commencing August 2022. Contracts can be offered for 6 - 12 months.

  • 50% non-clinical shifts – to complete special skills post curriculum that will enable you to participate in the design and running of the departmental teaching programs and/or simulation sessions
  • 6 month accreditation with ACEM as Special Skills Placement

Emergency Department

  • 48-bedded department which commenced service in November 2015
  • 77,000 presentations per year with an admission rate of approximately 30%
  • FACEM-lead team-based care
  • Excellent, varied case-mix providing a broad clinical experience. This includes Paediatrics (approximately 17% of presentation), Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Stroke Service.

Training Opportunities:

  • Tier 1 – 36 month accreditation with ACEM

  • Designated non-clinical FACEMs Monday to Friday to supervise WBAs
  • 4 hours weekly protected teaching time
  • Additional multidisciplinary weekly education program consisting of Simulation , Journal Club and  Mortality & Morbidity meetings
  • ACEM Primary and Fellowship Exam preparation programs
  • One-on-one bedside ultrasound teaching by a certified Sonographer to gain skills in AAA and eFAST as well as fulfil CCPU requirements

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and facilitating with the various medical education programs at all levels (medical student, RMO, Registrar, ACEM exam preparation and courses).
  • Develop and implement a high-fidelity simulation-based educational program for use within the hospital and particularly the Emergency Department.
  • Undertake at least one project to improve education/simulation quality within the Emergency Department
  • Provide clinical supervision and teaching to Registrar, Resident Medical Officers, Interns and Medical Students.
  • Treats Emergency Department (ED) patients carrying out procedures within capabilities and experience. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • General registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
  • An interest in pursuing further training in medical education and or simulation
  • Demonstrated clinical and procedural experience in an equivalent ED setting
  • Advanced ACEM trainee or equivalent
  • A willingness and capacity to embrace the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care.
