Job Description

Alice Springs Hospital Emergency Registrars and SRMOs 2023

Alice Springs Hospital is recruiting for the 2023 registrar year with 3-12 month contracts available.  For those still looking for a position in 2022 please also get in touch.

We offer a unique experience in indigenous health - practising high acuity medicine in a young population where 80% patients are Aboriginal.  You will see rheumatic heart disease, bronchiectasis, chronic liver disease, overwhelming sepsis, high rates or renal disease and diabetes as well as significant trauma.

We service an area of over 1 million km2 with around 50000 presentations a year with a 42% admission rate, median age of 34 years and 22% paediatric presentations.

The ED has accreditation for 36 months of ACEM training (non-major referral), including your paediatric log book/ PER, and offers a supportive training environment.  FACEMs are on the floor from 0730 till 2400 7 days a week. Our ED registrars can also access rotations to Paediatrics, Anaesthetics, ICU, Tennant Creek (Rural and Remote Medicine), Retrieval Medicine, as well as a new SSP position in Aboriginal Health.

We provide quality protected registrar teaching for 4 hours a week (with separate retrieval service teaching), and highly are supportive of primary and fellowship exam candidates.  We actively support your WBAs and roster supervised ‘in charge consultant’ shifts, as well as providing quality assurance shifts skills development. You can also complete your paediatric log book as part of your rotation.

We are happy to accept applications for 3-12 months, including rotations from your home hospital. You may be able to arrange this with your DEMT or Director, and we can help facilitate this.   We are also happy to accept applications from ACCRM registrars looking to undertake their EMC/ EMD/AST

The surrounding McDonnell Ranges are exquisitely beautiful, tall gum trees stand in the river beds, and we have blue cloudless skies almost every day. Camping, walking, and mountain biking are very popular. It’s a vibrant bustling tourist town, with numerous activities to keep you busy.

This is a great place to come for your 6 months non-tertiary placement, to gain experience if you are thinking of doing voluntary service overseas, or if you are interested in broadening your experience of Emergency Medicine or Aboriginal health.

Renumeration as per NT Medical Officers Award.

Please apply by 30/6/2022
