Cabrini is a Catholic charitable organisation inspired by the spirit and vision of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini and the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This order was founded by Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini who was canonised in 1946 and later proclaimed Universal Patron Saint of Immigrants. We are a community of care, reaching out with compassion, integrity, courage and respect to all we serve. With more than 4300 staff, 1000 accredited medical practitioners and several locations, we offer a range of employment opportunities to start, continue or advance your career.
The Emergency Department is located at our main clinical site in Malvern. The Malvern site is a tertiary 508-bed teaching hospital with inpatient services across all medical and surgical subspecialties. Our other inpatient services include a 138-bed acute hospital in Brighton, a 22-bed palliative care hospital in Prahran and a 30-bed private women’s-only mental health facility in Elsternwick.
About the Emergency Department
Cabrini’s Emergency Department is a FACEM-run ED located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Malvern. Our ED focuses on excellence in patient care through our values of compassion, integrity, courage and respect.
We are a well-resourced department which has been operational for 20 years, with yearly attendances of over 25,000 and a 40 percent admission rate reflective of high patient complexity and acuity. We expanded in 2019 to 28-beds with intra-departmental X-ray, CT, and ultrasound. We enjoy a highly collegiate relationship with our VMO colleagues making inpatient and outpatient referrals a smooth experience. Our onsite pathology service has rapid turnaround times on most investigations and access to all diagnostic imaging modalities is hassle-free.
We are an ACEM accredited training site that supports up to eight advanced phase ED registrars and we are affiliated with Monash University for medical student education.
We have a strong focus on education, patient experience, quality improvement, and innovation. We also offer in-house ACLS & neonatal resuscitation training and run regular multi-disciplinary in-situ simulation sessions. We have a dedicated nursing-led patient follow-up phone call service that contacts all of our discharged patients.
