An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist or Senior Medical Officer (Forensic Medicine) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10,000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
About the role
Provide forensic medical care to patients throughout the Gold Coast and Logan regions and an informed, impartial and competent forensic service to the Queensland Police Service, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Courts, the Coroner and the legal profession. This role is responsible for the provision of clinical forensic medical services, with a supervisory accountability for nursing and junior medical staff and involvement in operational and strategic processes within the service.
Requirements for the role
- Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Hepatitis B and COVID-19 plus Tuberculosis screening.
- Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
- MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia and registrable as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Faculty of Clinical Forensic Medicine (FFCFM) or equivalent acceptable to the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia will be highly regarded.
- Candidates with Fellowship of the Australasian College of Legal Medicine (FACLM) or Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) will be considered if they can demonstrate appropriate skills and experience, and hold or have enrolled in the Master of Forensic Medicine degree (Monash University) or equivalent qualification.
- Candidates without FFCFM, FACLM or FACEM may also be considered if they can demonstrate appropriate skills and experience, and hold or have enrolled in the Master of Forensic Medicine degree (Monash University).
- Experience in providing expert forensic medical services, police statements and expert opinions for court purposes will be well regarded, together with experience in teaching and supervision of doctors and nurses training in the field.
- Participation in a 7-day extended hours roster with after-hours on call digi-recall and recall required.
- The successful applicant will need to apply for unrestricted access to certain police establishments.
Salary information
Placement at a classification will be based on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications subject to relevant approvals

Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $225,777 - $239,377 p.a (full-time) / $108.18 - $114.69 p.h (part-time)
Staff Specialist: Base salary from $188,800 - $219,301 p.a (full-time) / $90.46 – $105.07 p.h (part-time)

Estimated total remuneration up to $380,754 p.a., comprising:
Senior Medical Officer (Senior Status): Base salary from $219,301 - $225,777 p.a (full-time) / $105.07 – $108.18 p.h (part-time)
Senior Medical Officer: Base salary from $188,800 - $214,094 p.a (full-time) / $90.46 - $102.58 p.h (part-time)
Estimated total remuneration up to $321,594 p.a., comprising:
Senior Medical Officer (Senior Status): Base salary $188,800 p.a (full-time) / $90.46 p.h (part-time)
Senior Medical Officer: Base salary from $163,465 - $183,932 p.a (full-time) / $78.32 - $88.13 p.h (part-time)

Estimated total remuneration up to $291,693 p.a., comprising:
Senior Medical Officer: Base salary from $163,465 - $168,573 p.a (full-time) / $78.32 - $80.77 p.h (part-time)
